Start the new year fresh: and clean up that mess

I cleaned up my house yesterday, and realized it’s much like doing shadow work. It’s literally looking at all the things you didn’t know what to do with or where to put, and so you threw them in a cupboard so you could not see it anymore, to be dealt with later.

Much like doing shadow work, when you start the process – there’s no way back. in the middle of it there’s chaos EVERYWHERE, your body hurts and there comes a point where you ask yourself whether it was a good idea to open all this mess up. You want to quit. But you know throwing all of it back into the cupboard will feel so unfulfilling – you know you have to finish the job.

All those things you decided to keep, “just in case”, are like the “what if’s” in your life where you hold on to certain people and situations “just in case” they may magically improve one day. People and situations that don’t fill your heart with joy, but it may come in handy one day to keep / stay connected to them.

Clearing out that closet is like clearing out your life.

How you do one thing, is how you do everything.

Do you keep energetic ties to people and situations that give you a sense of comfort? Does it comfort you to know you can always fall back on these safeties or people, and so you invest in them as little as energy as possible but just enough to keep the thing the thing in your life, even if you don’t actually find joy or inspiration in investing that little bit of energy?

It may be time to let go of those things.

To clean out your closet, your life and cut the energetic ties that keep you connected to so much of the old, out of fear for potentially losing something if you let it go.

Dear one, if it doesn’t bring you joy to invest in the relationship to that thing, situation or person, it also won’t bring you joy in the futureLet it go.

A minimalist lifestyle means keeping as little as possible so you can be most present with that which is most important to you. which is the present moment, the things and people in your life you truly care about from deep within and that fill you with joy when you spend time with them.

A new year, a new start. Use the new energy to clear out what you don’t need so your energy can be with that which actually serves you on a deeper level.

Less ís more.

Love,
Mayke

ps Let me know: do you also have that one-closet-that-shall-not-be-opened? For the love of God, get in and swipe a broom through its corners. Thank me later.
